Briar Hill Pizza with pepperoni? Yes, indeed, you can get Briar Hill with more than just green peppers. North Side mothers often threw on leftover eggplant and zucchini when they were in season and meatballs and sausage on the rare occasions they were available.
You may have missed it, I nearly did, but about 4 days ago in the USA Today Travel there was artlicle in which they asked local experts to name one great pizza parlor in each state. Jenny Pavlasek, an editor at Ohio Magazine recommended the Briar Hill pizza made by our own Bruno Brothers Pizza as one of Ohio’s best. Not a bad choice – but, is it the very best?
The presidents of Youngstown State University and Eastern Gateway Community College continue to share a vision of both institutions helping to improve education throughout the Mahoning Valley. Their vision will hopefully keep more college graduates here in the Valley, where the level of higher education in the work force is among the lowest in the state.

Deborah Delisle, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, recently congratulated 161 Ohio schools, including 14 in our Valley, which were named Schools of Promise based on results from the 2009-10 local report cards. These schools have excelled through rigorous coursework and a strong system of learning supports to help students overcome high levels of poverty.
Ohio’s unemployment rate was 10.1 percent in August, down slightly from 10.3 percent in July, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Ohio’s nonfarm wage and salary employment decreased 15,400 over the month, from the revised 5,046,600 in July to 5,031,200 in August.

Ohio Department of Development announced that a total of $400,000 is available for projects located within the seven Ohio Hubs of Innovation and Opportunity around the state including Youngstown, Ohio.
